An NWC is a Navisworks cache file, and Navisworks cannot export it to IFC. Veksle converts the NWC to IFC4 — upload the file, preview it, download the .ifc. No Autodesk software involved.
An .nwc is the lightweight geometry-and-property cache Navisworks writes when it reads a native CAD or Revit model. Here is how to turn one into IFC, and what comes across.
How to convert an NWC to IFC
- Open the converter and drop your single
.nwconto it. Files up to 2 GB, one per conversion. - Leave units on Auto-detect. The unit is read from the cache itself. If the file records none, the converter refuses rather than guessing — set the units and run it again.
- Convert. It produces IFC4 Design Transfer from the file — no Navisworks, no install, no licence.
- Preview and download. The IFC renders in the browser, then saves to your machine.

OPEN THE CONVERTER ▸NWC vs NWD — does it change the conversion?
No. An NWC is a cache — one native model exported to Navisworks' lightweight format. An NWD is a published document that can hold a whole federated model. Both carry geometry and properties, and both convert here the same way. If you have a published document instead, use convert NWD to IFC; the full comparison is in NWD vs NWC vs NWF.
What comes across
IFC4 Design Transfer: every element as an IfcBuildingElementProxy with its triangulated geometry and Navisworks properties, correctly placed. A coordination and viewing model — right for clash, coordination, quantities and handover.
Why Navisworks can't do this itself
Navisworks reads IFC but exports none, in any edition. See does Navisworks export IFC? for the detail.
FAQ
What is an NWC file?
A Navisworks cache file — the lightweight geometry and property export Navisworks writes when it reads a native CAD or Revit model. It is the per-model counterpart to a published NWD.
Can Navisworks export an NWC to IFC?
No. Navisworks has no IFC export in any edition. Converting it with a standalone tool like Veksle is the way to get IFC out of it.
Do I need Navisworks installed?
No. It needs no Autodesk software, no Navisworks licence and no install at any stage.
Is it free?
Yes, while we are in launch. No account, no install, and your files are deleted from the server the moment the conversion finishes.
Which IFC version does it produce?
IFC4 Design Transfer — elements as IfcBuildingElementProxy with triangulated geometry and their Navisworks properties.
